19 March: We barely spent 24 hours in Panama City, but really were on top of the world there, even if Playita Marina was a bit of an anticlimax. There was a huge swell that meant the mooring lines we had out were rubbing against the concrete pontoon and wearing away quickly. Luckily, we had done most of our provisioning back in Colón. We did go to a supermarket in one of the large malls - shopping there really was in a different league to Colón, and we appreciated the circus-themed merry-go-round in the centre, as we went round in circles for a while ourselves.
We had one day exploring the colourful old town, stopping for a break in a funky rooftop bar, with kids too cool for school (literally!) and having the most delicious lunch at Peruvian restaurant NAZCA. Octopus ceviche, prawns in reduced whisky sauce and fish in red wine - that was a real education for us all!
